New Big Bash

As you may know, in the new 2011/12 big bash season there will be 8 teams from different capital city’s. Cricket Australia are deciding whether to use some new rules. I did a survey which you can find here asking if i agreed with these rules.most were pretty good but i found a few contravercial ones.

The first one was that if a player hits a six and a crowd member catches it he/she can keep the ball. I disagreed with this rule because i thought it would give pace bowlers an advantage. A spinner could get smashed and then have to bowl with a shiney new ball that wont grip, while a pace bowler gets a new ball that will swing for him.

The second rule was that the 12th man could bat and the bowling team would need 11 wickets to bowl them out. I was also agains this because i think the basic rules of cricket should not be tampered with, even in T20.

Watto Smashes Bangledesh into reality

Australia has beaten Bangledesh by 9 wickets overnight in the 2nd of 3 ODI,s. Chasing 229, Shane Watson scored 185 off 96 balls including 15 sixes and 15 fours. Haddin was caught for 8 and Ponting finished not out on 37. This is the highest ODI score by an Australian after Mathew Hayden’s 181 and its also a world record amount of sixes. Australia’s first WC loss since 1999

Last night Australia lost to Pakistan by 4 wickets in Colombo. You can veiw the scorecard Here. Australia batted first and put up a weak performance being bowled out for only 176 in 46.4 overs. (run rate of 3.77). Pakistan then replied by easily chasing down the target in 41 overs. Brad Haddin top scored for Australia with 42 from 80 balls. This doesn’t stop Australia from making the Quarter finals, but they finish 3rd rather than 1st if they had won. Also if Australia had won they would have faced England in the quarters but now instead they face the winner of tonights game between the West Indies and India.

Australia Stagger over Canada

Australia defeated Canada in Bengaluru last night in what was a poor performance by the Aussies. Canada won the toss and elected to bat. They brought up their 50 in the 4th over due to some erratic bowling by Tait and Lee. Canada kept up their superb run-rate even after 19 year old Hiral Patel was dismissed in the 12th over for 54 with the score on 82. Patel’s wicket was followed by a great partnership between Surkari (34) and Bagai (39) who took the score to 150 by the 29th over. However, once Bagai was dismissed the wickets began to tumble and Canada ended up making 211 all out off 45.4 overs with Lee taking 4/46. In reply, Australia made the the runs with 7 wickets in hand and 93 balls remaining. They finished up with 3/212 from 34.5 with Watson making 94 from 90 balls and Haddin making 88 from 84 balls. Watson and Haddin shared a partnership of 183. The pick of the Canadian bowlers was Davison who took 1/29. Shane Watson took out the man of the match award as Australia moves to the top of their group. Although the match looks good on paper for Australia, the reality is they were really sloppy and against better teams they would have been punished for their mistakes. Watson and Hussey both dropped catches and Hussey conceded some silly overthrows. At one point the ball was skied high in the air and Ricky Ponting called. However Steve Smith didn’t hear the call and continued running and eventually collided with Ponting. Luckily for Australia Ponting held the catch. However he was visibly furious at Smith. So Australia continue their world cup winning streak but they still have a lot room for improvement.

Hussey returns as Australia cruise over Kenya

Australia defeated the lowly Kenya last night by 60 runs at Bengaluru. Ricky Ponting won the toss and elected to bat. Australia got off to a flyer with Watson smashing 21 from 17 with 3 fours and a six. Australia then made 6/324 off their 50 overs. Michael Clarke top scored with 93 including 7 fours and a six. Brad Haddin contributed with 65 from 79 balls including 9 fours and a six and Mike Hussey who replaced his brother David in the side made 54 off 43 balls with 4 boundaries. Nehemiah Odhiambo picked up 10-1-57-3. Kenya then came out to bat and were not disgraced, in fact they made a respectable 6/264 from 50 overs. Collins Obuya top scored with a personal best 98 runs from 129 balls with 9 fours and 3 sixes. Shaun Tait was the pick if the bowlers taking 8-0-49-2. However Australia’s total was always going to be too much for Kenya and Australia remain the only undefeated team left in the World Cup. Collins Obuya took out the man of the match award for his brilliant knock.

Hussey and Nannes join World Cup Squad

Middle order batsman Mike Hussey and in-form Dutch-Victorian fast bowler Dirk Nannes have joined Australia’s world sup squad in the Sub-Continent. This decision comes a surprise as Hussey was controversially left out of Australia’s original World Cup Squad. Hussey, who is coming back from a hamstring injury sustained in the recent home One-Day series against England will be desperate to perform and justify his selection. Nannes, who is replacing the injured Doug Bollinger in the squad is coming off a match winning performance of 10-0-29-3 in the Ryobi One-Day Cup Final. Although it is unlikely that Nannes will play because Australia’s fast bowling attack of Lee, Tait and Johnson are in sizzling form and they already have a replacement in John Hastings. It is expected that Hussey will play in Australia’s next group match against Kenya.

O’brien Leads Ireland to Victory

Kevin O’Brien’s fasted word cup hundred ever (coming off 50 balls) has lead Ireland to a historic 3 wicket win over England at Bangalore. Off England’s 50 overs they made 8-327. Trott top scored with 92 and Bell and Pietersen made 81 and 59 repectively. Ireland’s Mooney was their best bowler taking 4-63. Victory looked unlikely for the Irish when Gary Wilson was trapped LBW making the score 5-111. To the rescue came Kevin O’Brien and Alex Cusack who shared an 162 run stand to turn the game aroung. Even after their magnificent partnership the game was still in the balance when Cusack was dissmised. However cool heads under pressure from O’Brien, Johnston and Mooney saw the Irish win by 3 wickets with 5 balls left.

Malinga and Roach take Hat-Tricks

Lasith Malinga has taken his 2nd world cup hat trick in successive World Cups. The 27 year old slinga rattled the Kenyan lower order, taking 5 wickets in 11 balls including a hat trick. Malinga trapped Tanmay Mishra off the last ball of his 8th over then bowled both Peter Ongondo and Shem Ngoche with the first two balls of his ninth. The Kenyans had slumped from a half decent 5-128 to a dismal 142 all out. Bowling unplayable in-swinging yorkers, Malinga has figures of 7.4-0-6-34.

In a hat-trick double header Kemar Roach took the 7th World Cup hat-trick of all time. Roach took wicket on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd balls of his 9th over. He trapped Seelaar and Loots LBW in successive balls, then knocked Westdijk’s middle stump to complete his hat-trick. He ended up taking 8.3-0-6-27 as the West Indies rolled the Netherlands by 215 runs.

World cup

Australia has won its first 2 opening WC games against Zimbabwe and New Zealand. Zimbabwe lost by 91 runs and NZ lost by 7 wickets. And Doug Bollinger has been sent home with a foot injury.
