England retain Ashes in 4th test

England have retained the Ashes by winning the 4th test in Melbourne. Australia struggled in the 1st innings after losing the toss and being forced to bat in whwt was definately bowling conditions. They where bowled out for 98 and England came in to bat in what was now a sunny day. At the end of day 1 England were 0/157 and continued ito day 2 losing 5 wickets by the end of the day. Australia Bowled England out by Lunch on day 3 for 513. Australia Survived day 3 being 6/169 at the close of play but with fast bowler Ryan Harris suffering a stress fracture in his foot England only needed 3 wickets on day 4 which they got before drinks. For a full scorecard follow the link. With this win the best result for Australia would be a draw and England would retain the ashes anyway. The 5th test in Sydney starts on Monday, January 3rd 2011.

Sweatband argument

During the 3rd test in Perth, Shane Warne brought up the point that if the ball hits the sweatband and the band is touching the glove, is it then called part of the glove? The rulebook says its not and only “the wristband of the glove” (the part which holds your glove to your arm) is counted. I agree that the sweatband is not part of the glove but the wristband is. What is your say?

2nd Test loss and 3rd Test win

Australia have leveled the series 1-1 with a win against England in Perth yesterday. Mitch Johnson and Ryan Harris both picked up 6 wickets and mike hussey made a confident 61 and 116. Here is the first test and the second test‘s scorecards.

1st Test Draw

The first Ashes test has ended in a draw. Australia looked to have the game in the bag for the first 3 days with Peter Siddle getting a hattrick and a total of 6 wickets and Mike Hussey making 195 with Brad Haddin who made 136. But a srtong batting performance from Strauss, Cook and Trott put England back up to standard and the game was called a draw. For a full scorercard click the link. The next test at Adelaide starts tommorow.

Ponting to miss ODI

Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting will miss Wednesday’s opening one-day international against Sri Lanka at the MCG to attend his grandmother’s funeral. Ponting’s grandmother died on the weekend and the Aussie skipper will fly to his home town of Launceston on Wednesday morning for the funeral. His deputy Michael Clarke will lead the Australian team in his absence, however Australia’s full team remains unnamed with the in-form Xavier Doherty and Callum Ferguson pushing for selection ahead of possibly Mike Hussey and Nathan Hauritz. Australia is under the pump after not winning a single cricket game of any form since July when they hammered Pakistan at Lords. With the squad remained unsettled and confidence not on their side, Australia looks in trouble for the Ashes this Summer.
